49ers’ Fred Warner may soon receive a preseason proposal from son of Titans GM Ran Carthon

The San Francisco 49ers’ preseason opener with the Tennessee Titans on August 10 will represent a reunion with a very familiar face.

It will mark the first time the Niners have faced the Titans since Ran Carthon left San Francisco to take over as Tennessee’s general manager last January.

Carthon had served in the 49ers’ front office since 2017, working as the Niners’ director of pro personnel before being promoted to director of player personnel in 2021.

As such he and his family obviously have strong relationships with a lot of people inside the 49ers’ facility.

Appearing on ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’, Carthon explained that one such bond exists between his eldest son Roman and 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner.

So when Roman learned the 49ers would be opening their exhibition schedule in Nashville against the Titans, he had a request for his father.

Said Carthon: “When the schedule came out the other day, my oldest, Roman, says ‘So when we play the Niners in the preseason, can I wear my Fred Warner jersey?’

“I was like ‘You call Fred and if Fred gets you tickets and if you sit with Fred’s family then yes you can wear your Fred jersey.'”

A shrewd move on Carthon’s part means Warner could soon be getting an unexpected request.

Niners fans are renowned for traveling well. Whether they’ll do so for a preseason game across the country is a different matter. Yet there will surely be at least some red in the stands, and it could potentially be worn by the son of the man hoping to lead the Titans back to prominence in the AFC.
