Everton Has To Sell Players But Needs To Keep Jarrad Branthwaite

Several Everton players have been linked with transfers away from the club this summer as it continues to attempt to balance its finances following points deductions for breaching the English Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules in recent years.

A number of names at the club will attract interest from other teams, both from the Premier League and from across Europe, but one player Everton should avoid selling is star center-back Jarrad Branthwaite

The 21-year-old emerged as one of the best defenders in England during the 2023/24 campaign.

A loan spell with PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie in the 2022/23 season appears to have set him up well for regular games in the Premier League, and he has fit perfectly into Everton manager Sean Dyche’s system alongside the more experienced James Tarkowski.

Branthwaite is a tall and increasingly physical defender who contributed to an Everton defensive record which was the fourth-best in the English top division during the recent season which ended last week.

Branthwaite was unlucky to miss out on the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year award. He wasn’t even shortlisted, but that says more about the shortcomings of that award, which includes players up to the age of 23, than the performances the Everton defender put in throughout the season.

At his club, Branthwaite was named Players’ Player of the Season and Fans’ Young Player of the Season. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was named fans’ Player of the Season at Everton and is another one of the players who might interest other clubs.
