Everton backed to sell three top stars as club confirm offers – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club could sell “two or three quality players” to fund their summer transfer business.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – praised the Merseysiders’ move to keep Idrissa Gueye, Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman at the club.

Everton confirmed on Friday (17 May) that Gueye’s one-year contract extension clause has been activated – while Young and Coleman have been offered new deals.

The Toffees also confirmed they will continue dialogue about the future of Jack Harrison after Leeds United play in the play-off final on Sunday (26 May).

Sean Dyche’s side finished 15th in the Premier League in the 2023-24 campaign despite being deducted eight points.

Everton must sell two to three stars this summer, says Wyness

Wyness suggested remaining in the division will be the target again next season with a lack of big-money business expected.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Without the funding being restructured, it’s very hard for the club to carry on spending in the transfer window.

“I think selling players will have to be the order of the day.

“It does seem that we could be losing two or three quality players to get the PSR issue solved once and for all, and also to allow us to put a squad together to maintain Premier League status.

“We’ve seen that Idrissa Gueye, Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman have been handed new one-year deals.

“The age of those three is an interesting question mark, but they are all great professionals.

“We’ve got to put a squad together with the funds we receive and maintain our Premier League status. Getting into the new stadium while in the top division is a crucial factor in any takeover negoatiation.”
