SHOCKING NEWS: : Everton land ‘Significant’ £117m+ windfall after what happened on….

Everton earn ‘Significant’ financial windfall after Premier League final day drama

Everton have secured a “significant” financial windfall after finishing the season in 15th place in the Premier League, according to Dan Plumley.

The Toffees suffered defeat to Arsenal on the final day of the campaign, but with Brentford suffering a loss to Newcastle it meant Sean Dyche’s side kept their 15th place spot in the table.

Football finance expert Plumley confirmed that clubs earn an extra £3.1m for every place up the table they finish, plus extras for finishing on TV and the club could earn around £120m for their final finish based on last season’s numbers.

“So every spot is worth £3.1m at the minute in merit payments, so if you jump up a couple of places that’s £6.2m and every gap is worth £3.1m, so you can look at the situation,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“There will still be some flux in that depending on how many times you’ve been on TV, which is worth 25% of the total pot as well.

“If you look at last year’s numbers clubs finishing between 15th and 17th took between £117m and £120m in broadcasting revenue alone, so it’s that kind of money that you’re aiming at. “But the difference per place is £3.1m at the minute, so that jump of two places is a decent chunk. Just over £6m which is why really nowadays, there aren’t such things as dead rubbers from a points perspective if you can gain a place or a couple of places on the final day then that’s a significant chunk of money that can come your way.”

Every penny helps Everton currently hence vital Premier League survival

The financial situation at Goodison Park currently is horrendous, with 777 Partners’ takeover looking dead in the water currently and the future of the club up in the air.

So while £3.1m is usually seen as peanuts for a Premier League club, that extra money is huge for the club currently and the fact they were aired on TV for the final game will help boost their final pot too.

The £120million-plus total is a huge positive also considering the financial problems they’re facing, and it shows just how vital staying in the Premier League was for the future of the club.

Relegation to the Championship would have been a real issue, even with parachute payments kicking in, but ultimately there would have been huge problems if Dyche hadn’t navigated away from the drop zone.

Finishing in 15th is huge, but with the eight points they lost added back on the club would have finished in 12th place which would be another £9million-plus added into the accounts. That’s another punishment, but they can be happy with what they got at least.
