Rashee Rice set to participate in all of Chiefs’ offseason activities amid legal trouble over Dallas car crash involvement
Some good news depends on who that is— Rashee Rice has been given the green light to attend the Kansas City Chiefs OTAs. The Chiefs Kingdom feared the worst when the second-year-wide receiver landed himself in legal trouble.
Rice, who was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft, has eight criminal charges lodged against him. On March 30, the SMU graduate was irresponsibly riding a supercar on the freeway in Dallas, close to his home. He crashed the vehicle, totaling a few other cars and injuring the occupants.
Additionally, police lodged a lawsuit against Rice for assault at a Dallas nightclub. He allegedly hit someone at the club, leaving them injured. However, he wasn’t arrested due to insufficient evidence.
While he was going through all of this, Rice attended the virtual phase of the Chiefs’ offseason programming. Head coach Andy Reid revealed that they hadn’t made any decisions about the playmaker’s future with the franchise just yet.
We’re waiting for the law enforcement part of it to take place, and we’ll go from there. Andy Reid said in April
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Rashee Rice has no restriction on taking part in the Chiefs OTAs, which kicked off on Monday.
Rashee Rice got some work done before the OTAs with other Chiefs receivers
ESPN previously reported that the NFL had discussed imposing a ban on Rice. Insider sources claimed that it could be as little as four games to a maximum half-season ban.
That’s yet to develop, and meanwhile, the 24-year-old squeezed in some workouts with fellow Chiefs receivers. Skyy Moore and new signing Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown joined him to run some quick steps and on-field drills. Brown shared a short clip of their practice on social media.
The Chiefs need Rice to forget all the offseason incidents quickly. He must get his head back in the game because he was their best receiver last season apart from Travis Kelce.
Rice was on track to snatch the Offensive Rookie of the Season accolade at one point, which eventually went to the LA Rams’ Puka Nacua . The Chiefs speedster recorded 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season, as he won the Super Bowl ring in his first season while the Chiefs went back-to-back.
Reid and general manager Brett Veach added Brown to strengthen the firepower. They also drafted Texas playmaker Xavier Worthy.
