Coventry City transfer update emerges as Preston skipper’s ‘record’ offer revealed
Preston appear to being upping their attempt to keep their wanted captain Alan Browne amid ‘interest’ from Coventry City and newly relegated Sheffield United.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported earlier this month that the Sky Blues are keen on the versatile 29-year-old midfielder who is out of contract this summer after ten years at Deepdale, including nine seasons in the Championship. The experienced Browne can play in a number of roles in the middle of the park, as well as out wide, and scored four goals and provided four assists for his team last term.
Mark Robins is understood to be looking to add to his midfield following the released of Liam Kelly and imminent confirmation of Callum O’Hare’s departure. Browne is weighing up his options and there appears to be a number of offers on the table for him.
But Coventry’s chances of landing Browne – a Republic of Ireland international with 35 caps for his country – seem to be fading, according to transfer specialist Nixon, who claims on his Patreon platform: “Preston’s chances of keeping shipper Alan Browne are soaring as rivals struggle to match their offer.
“Republic of Ireland midfielder Browne has been offered a record contract but has had rival interest from Sheffield United and Coventry. However, the North End package is bigger and Browne may commit to them in the coming weeks.”
City owner Doug King revealed recently that the club’s recruitment department are ‘on it’ when it comes to this summer’s transfer window when he’s looking to back Robins to help him strengthen his squad in a bid to push for promotion next season.
