Leeds United were interested in signing Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, but the Swedish stopper is instead heading to Stoke City very soon.

The Whites are going to be busy in the transfer market no matter what division they end up in after a trip to Wembley in eight days’ time.

Illan Meslier was a massive part of how Leeds cruised through their playoff semi-final against Norwich City, but it doesn’t stop links to a ‘keeper.

Viktor Johansson on Leeds’ transfer radar for summer

It was claimed by Swedish outlet Aftonbladet that Leeds were one of the clubs currently taking an interest in signing Rotherham United ‘keeper Viktor Johansson.

The Millers were relegated some time ago but the 25-year-old has caught the eye with his impressive shot-stopping in a poor Rotherham side.

His contract included a release clause claimed to be in the region of £730,000 in the above report, with Sheffield United looking too.

Will Leeds get promoted?

Stoke City win race for Viktor Johansson

However, Leeds won’t be signing Johansson this summer, because the Telegraph’s John Percy has shared that he is heading elsewhere in the Championship.

Stoke City have agreed a deal to land the ‘keeper, with his release clause triggered at a slightly higher £1million fee.

A medical was undergone on Friday for the ‘keeper to join Steven Schumacher’s side in the summer window.

Johansson a shrewd signing for Stoke, Leeds miss out

If we get promoted, it might be that the club are looking for someone of a higher calibre, but Johansson has been immense for some time.

He deserves a good move and you would expect that if Stoke continue investing in players of that quality, they’ll be pushing top six next term.

It is a surprise that Johansson hasn’t gone to a side that are more likely to be at the top end of the table next term, though.
