James Tarkowski hails ‘priceless’ Everton star who could leave the club this summer
Everton defender James Tarkowski has hailed a priceless Everton player who could be set to leave Goodison Park this summer.
The former Burnley man has been a standout performer during the 2023/24 season.
Tarkowski made history against Sheffield United, becoming the first player to make 50 successful blocks in three successive Premier League seasons.
And on Friday, the 31-year-old appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live to discuss the Toffees’ brilliant end to the season.
James Tarkowski drops honest opinion on Seamus Coleman
Seamus Coleman has been offered a new contract, with the Irishman still pondering whether to stay at Goodison Park.
Speaking about the 35-year-old, Tarkowski has claimed the right-back is “priceless” to the club.
“There’s just one standout, which is Seamus Coleman,” he said. “If anyone knows him or has seen him work day-to-day, he is incredible. He really is. He is priceless to us.
“What he brings to the team every day to the club, even when he is injured, he will do a speech before a game or maybe the day before training just galvanises us, his selflessness. He is just everything for Everton. He is basically a fan that plays for the club.
“I mean, we have got a few. Ashley Young, Pickford, Idrissa Gana Gueye in the middle, quite a few, but Seamus Coleman is the standout one, and I think if you asked anyone at the club, they would mention him first.”
Seamus Coleman has tough decision to make after Everton’s final game against Arsenal
The fact Coleman has been offered fresh terms indicates that Dyche and Kevin Thelwell truly believe he’s capable of making a regular impact next season.
Furthermore, as Tarkowski has alluded to, the 35-year-old clearly provides something in the dressing room which is difficult to replicate.
If he does leave after Sunday’s final match against the Gunners, the Irishman will go down as a modern-day Goodison Park legend.
Considering the fee he was signed for and the service he’s provided during his time at the club, Coleman is arguably one of the best-value signings in Premier League history.
It’s hard to think of another player who has provided such longevity, having been acquired for practically nothing.
