Everton left reeling by £12m points deduction blow – Exclusive
Everton have lost out on over £12million of merit payments because of their eight-point deduction this season, Football Insider can reveal.
The Merseyside club have breached Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules in consecutive seasons, resulting in two separate deductions. They were initially docked 10 points in November which was later reduced to six following a successful appeal.
The club was then hit with a further two-point deduction after their 2022-23 accounts also exceeded the £105million allowable losses under PSR.
Overall, the eight points deducted have dropped Everton down to 15th in the table with one game remaining this season.
Everton points deductions have cost the club over £12m
Without the deductions, Everton would have been on 48 points and in 11th place – level on points with Brighton in 10th.
Football Insider can reveal that the four places Everton have lost in the league is worth over £12million to the club as each position in the Premier League is worth an additional £3.1million in merit payments. Everton will still bank over £90million in merit payments, but the loss of income could prove costly to the club amid their current financial struggles. Sean Dyche’s side will end their 2023-24 campaign on Sunday (19 May) when they face title-chasing Arsenal at The Emirates.
