Everton loanee Neal Maupay reacts to France EURO 2024 squad selection message
Everton loanee Neal Maupay has reacted via social media to an official post from the France national team ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.
The Toffees striker has been on loan at Brentford this season, scoring eight goals in 30 appearances and creating a partnership with Ivan Toney in the attacking third of the pitch.
With the Euro 2024 competition in Germany on the horizon this summer, players will be hoping to be called up to their respective national teams, and Maupay is no different.
As the national team teased their squad announcement, Maupay reacted via X on Thursday (16 May), saying: “I’ve cleared my schedule to sit waiting by the phone, lads.”
The short answer – highly unlikely. Maupay has certainly hit the ground running since rejoining Brentford on loan, impressing after a tough spell at Goodison Park.
However, he has never earned a cap for his national team, and this does not look like the year that he will be rewarded with one, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani, Olivier Giroud and Moussa Diaby likely to be chosen over him.
The real question should be over the 27-year-old’s future with Everton, having scored just two goals in 34 appearances since arriving at Goodison Park from Brighton in August 2022.
