Mark Robins is close to having a fully fit Coventry City squad from which to choose as he works his players towards Friday night’s CBS Arena clash with Birmingham.
The Sky Blues boss is just two players away from a clean bill of health in his senior squad, with playmaker Kasey Palmer and striker Fabio Tavares making excellent progress on the comeback trail. Both came through an hour with the Under-21s in Friday’s 3-1 defeat by Peterborough United at the Alan Higgs Centre.
Palmer has been absent for the last 12 games with an abductor tear but could be included in the squad to face Wayne Rooney’s stuttering Blues side in this week’s big televised home game (KO 8pm). Tavares, meanwhile, who has been out for almost a year with a ruptured Achilles, is expected to need a little longer before he’s ready for first team action.
“They have been out for a long time, in Fabio’s case it has been nearly 12 months,” said Robins. “Kasey has been out for over two months and you look at him getting match minutes, yes, absolutely. It’s slightly different to Fabio, he’s got to get his timing back. He’s got to get his rhythm back and get that confidence, you know, to go and play. But he looks better and better all the time when he’s training.
