Everton handed major transfer boost in pursuit of Southampton gem Che Adams

Everton are set to be closer to landing one of their prime attacking targets, as Southampton striker Che Adams has expressed his desire to move on, according to TEAMtalk.

The report on 15 May outlines how Adams wants to leave in search of regular Premier League football, even if Southampton are themselves promoted, and Everton could be in pole position with top-flight safety secured weeks ago.

Adams has notched up 68 goal contributions in 190 Saints appearances, having joined the club in 2019. He has 18 goals in all competitions this season, with his side looking to secure an immediate Premier League return via the play-offs – a win at St Mary’s over West Brom this week will book a place in the Wembley final.

Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been persistently linked with a transfer out of Goodison Park, with Adams potentially Sean Dyche’s target to be the new number nine next season.

Che Adams, Everton’s new frontman?

Adams has been categorised in some quarters as a forward capable of performing above Championship level, but inconsistent and unreliable in the Premier League.

In fairness to Everton, they have had a few players in recent years who could fall into that category, several of them stepping it up this season to ensure relatively comfortable top-flight survival despite eight points’ worth of deductions.

If Adams were to secure a move to Merseyside, he would be playing in front of his largest and most expectant crowd yet, which could go one of two ways.

Despite not being necessarily prolific at Premier League level, the Scotland striker has popped up with some big goals, and exudes a confident aura which could work in his favour.

Adams has attracted praise from his predecessors, with Ally McCoist describing the frontman as “terrific” in his general play, and “a breath of fresh air” for the Scotland side.

As for Everton targeting Adams, from a Blues perspective it could be a transfer pursuit amongst serious competition, as TEAMtalk report Wolves and potentially Leeds United are on amber alert for the 27-year-old.
