Leeds United centre-backs Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu have been working overtime to improve the side’s effectiveness from attacking set pieces.
Since the international break, Leeds have amassed a miserable eight points from a possible 21, which has put automatic promotion virtually out of reach with one game left to play.
Promotion is looking like it will have to come via the playoffs, and Leeds will have to improve in numerous areas to ensure they are successful at Wembley.
A key problem that Daniel Farke is the latest Leeds manager to encounter is how toothless the side are from set pieces going forward.
Dominating possession virtually every week, Leeds get multiple corners and free-kicks in good positions, only for the delivery or header on the end of it to not be good enough.
When asked about this during his pre-Southampton press conference, Farke said this about Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu’s work to rectify it (via LeedsLive):
“My centre halves, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon, wanted to go for lots of finishing and attacking crosses and attacking corner kicks in order to score a bit more.
“I like this attitude, but I also had to stop them sometimes to make sure they’re not overloaded and they don’t lose their enjoyment of being on the pitch.
“I love this mentality, but I also have to make sure it’s not too much.”
