One player that has been repeatedly linked to the Milwaukee Bucks over the past few months is Chicago Bulls combo guard Alex Caruso.
It’s no secret that Milwaukee’s backcourt could use an upgrade on the defensive end following Jrue Holiday’s summer exit, and some experts believe that Caruso is the man for the job.
The Bucks, however, do not have a clear path to the 29-year-old. Should the Bulls decide to place him on the trade block, Milwaukee is going to have to contend with a few other teams that could also be interested in Caruso. One of those teams is likely going to be the Los Angeles Lakers.
Los Angeles Lakers to Bring Back Alex Caruso?
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes that the Lakers would benefit significantly in bringing back Caruso to Hollywood. Below is his proposed trade:
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Alex Caruso, F Torrey Craig
Chicago Bulls Receive: PG Gabe Vincent, SG Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2024 second-round pick
Caruso is a fan-favorite in LA but more importantly, he could fill a very specific need for LeBron James and Co.:
The 29-year-old Caruso is connecting on 47.7 percent of his threes this season, good for fourth-highest in the NBA. The Lakers, on the other hand, rank dead last in made threes per game (9.9) and 29th overall in efficiency (33.7 percent),” Swartz wrote.
For the Bucks, however, Caruso’s value will come from his defensive abilities. Swapping Jrue Holiday with Damian Lillard was a significant upgrade on the offensive end, but there’s also no denying that the Bucks’ backcourt has had problems defensively this season.
Caruso isn’t exactly a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, but he could be a great fit for the Bucks as well. The question, however, is if Milwaukee has enough assets at its disposal to convince Chicago to part ways with Caruso.
