Everton and Manchester United have had a longstanding transfer connection, but one that has seldom benefited the former.
After all, it has mainly seen the Red Devils cherry pick their best players, and whilst the financial rewards are briefly substantial, the lack of intelligent ownership has seen all those funds scuppered across the last few decades.
Wayne Rooney marks the outstanding export from Merseyside in 2004, but since then notable names like Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini and even David Moyes have traded Goodison Park for Old Trafford.
And in return, the Toffees have been willing recipients of their cast-offs like Phil Neville, Darren Gibson, Tim Howard and Tom Cleverley, all of whom have enjoyed varied success.
However, one player who we would have never expected to make the move from Everton to Manchester United is Neal Maupay, but he has still touted it as a possibility.
Neal Maupay pokes fun at Manchester United
Albeit, that suggestion was made in jest, responding to a fan’s comment on X.
Having posted a video of his skewed golf swing, one reply inexplicably delved into signing the Frenchman on an EAFC career mode.
The fan jokingly asked whether he would be willing to stay as a rotation option with limited play time at Manchester United, and for whatever reason, Maupay responded.
The on-loan Everton man wrote: ‘With the wages they pay?! Where do I sign mate’.
Will Neal Maupay leave Everton this summer?
Although it was not a serious conversation, the summer does feel like the end of the road for Maupay’s brief and ultimately unsuccessful spell with Everton.
Having joined in the summer of 2022 under Frank Lampard’s reign, the 27-year-old was a £15m acquisition that many thought would mark intelligent business.
