Rangers and Coventry City race to sign Raphael Rodrigues

Rangers and Coventry City are readying moves for Australian sensation Raphael Borges Rodrigues, sources have told Football Insider.

Rodrigues, 20, has caught the eye at Macarthur FC in the Australian A-League and his form has brought him onto the radar of a host of European clubs.

The attacker has scored six goals and provided two assists for Macarthur FC this season and they are braced for summer bids.

Championship side Coventry have been tracking Rodrigues for some time, while Scottish giants Rangers are also keeping close tabs.

League Two Swindon Town are also readying an ambitious move for Rodrigues with the Robins owner Clem Morfuni aiming to use his Australian connections to try and lure the player to England.

Rodrigues in demand as Rangers and Coventry battle for his signature
Originally born in the Netherlands, Rodrigues moved to Australia as a young child and joined the Melbourne City Academy in 2017.

Seven years later and he is attracting the interest of two top clubs, who could provide a pathway onto Europe’s biggest stage.

He operates as an eye-catching winger with quick feet and plenty of skills in his locker.

Rodrigues made just 11 A-League appearances across four seasons at Melbourne City but is now a mainstay for the division’s fifth-placed side.

A move to the United Kingdom would be a significant step for the young Socceroo who will be keen to follow in the footsteps of fellow Aussie Garang Kuol – the teenage Newcastle United striker who is on loan with Dutch side Volendam.
