Gary O’Neil expects goalkeeper Jose Sa to be ready to face Burnley tomorrow, despite being forced off against Arsenal on Saturday – but Jonny will not be involved after a training ground ‘incident’.
Sa was taken off midway through the first half at The Emirates after suffering from a back spasm. He was replaced by David Bentley with the Gunners already two goals up and en route to a 2-1 victory.
However, speaking ahead of Tuesday’s 7.30pm kick-off, Wolves boss O’Neil gave a positive update. He said: “He did some training today, we’ll do the last few checks for him tomorrow, but he he felt fine this morning.”
There is also good news about Rayan Ait-Nouri, who hurt his ankle against Fulham, and Pedro Neto, who has not played since the Newcastle draw on October 28.
“[He’s] Doing well. I think tomorrow will probably be too early but hope to have him available at the weekend against Nottingham Forest. Pedro is still working his way up to speed, not with us just yet, but he’s getting closer, so yeah, he’s excited. He’s got a bounce in his step and a smile on his face around the training ground.”
However, the Wolves boss says Jonny, who was on the bench at Craven Cottage but absent at the weekend, has been ruled out for ‘the coming games’. “Jonny won’t be in the squad tomorrow,” O’Neil revealed. “There was a training ground incident last week, that’s being dealt with by the club.
If or when he’s back available we’ll let everybody know, at this moment in time he won’t be available for the coming games. I’d rather not go into details in public, things happen in the training grounds and at football clubs a lot. As I said the club are dealing with it.”
