Promotion to the Premier League is in Leeds United’s sight. Daniel Farke’s troops make the short trip to the Riverside Stadium tonight to take on Middlesbrough knowing three points will move them up to second in the Championship.
A three-match winless run has left the Whites with ground to make up heading into the business end of the campaign. Former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist reckons United must win their final three matches to secure a top-two finish.
“It’s one of these games where, if Leeds were to pick and choose a place to go to, it would not be Middlesbrough on current form,” McCoist told talkSPORT. “They’ve got to win. If they harbour any real hopes of automatic promotion, they’ve got to look at their next three games and take nine points, it’s as simple as that.”
After the trip to Teesside, United travel to Queens Park Rangers on Friday before concluding their campaign at home to promotion rivals Southampton on Saturday, May 4. The Whites lie in third position, four points off table-topping Leicester City.
Ex-Whites defender Dominic Matteo said: “Three games to go, three difficult games, we all know that but are we capable of winning the games?
“Of course we are because of the quality we have. Everyone’s got to be at it. But the leaders within the group have to stand up be counted and have to lead from the front.”
