Just In: James McClean sends message to Tranmere Rovers after Wrexham promotion

Wrexham are back in League One for the first time since 2005 having smashed Forest Green Rovers 6-0 at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon.

Phil Parkinson knew that Wrexham were in a great position following the thrashing of Crawley Town in midweek.

Wrexham simply blew Forest Green Rovers away, as was to be expected against League Two’s bottom club.

Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin had Wrexham 2-0 up and cruising before Ryan Inniss put the ball into his own net.

Mullin made it 4-0 with Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott only adding gloss to the scoreline with second-half goals.

Fans inside the STōK Cae Ras will have been flicking their eyes between the stunning Wrexham performance and updates from MK Dons v Mansfield Town.

Mansfield’s 4-1 win was enough to get the job done for Wrexham as fans flooded onto the pitch to celebrate a second promotion inside a year.

James McClean sends message to Tranmere Rovers
We aren’t naive here; we know that Wrexham’s promotion won’t have been enjoyed by everybody.

Many rival supporters and even fans of teams who haven’t played Wrexham for a long, long time are probably hoping for Wrexham’s downfall.

That comes with the territory when you have two Hollywood owners and a documentary series.

We can only imagine what Tranmere Rovers fans are saying and James McClean has now sent some words their way.

McClean showed his annoyance in March as Tranmere substitute Jean Belehouan was seen celebrating wildly after their 1-0 win over Wrexham.

McClean called Belehouan ‘embarrassing’ and he has now sent a message to Tranmere following Wrexham’s promotion.

The Irishman has taken to Instagram to celebrate Saturday’s win, stating that this season has been an ‘absolute pleasure’ to be a part of having joined Wrexham last summer.

McClean then turned his attention to the likes of Newport County, Accrington Stanley and Tranmere, joking that they can celebrate winning the ‘we beat Wrexham cup’.

“P.s congrats to Newport, Accie and Tranmere on the wee beat Wrexham cup this season, enjoy your celebrations, well enjoy ours,” said McClean.

Ben Tozer and Mullin were both laughing away in the comments whilst Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Humphrey Ker all supported his message.

Will McClean stay at Wrexham?
McClean signed a one-year deal at Wrexham last summer, arriving from League One side Wigan Athletic.

The 34-year-old has played an important role this season, recording four goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

Wrexham have the option to extend McClean’s deal by another year and we would expect that to be taken up.

McClean may turn 35 next week but he has proven himself as a valuable player both as a left wing back and even in midfield.

Parkinson values McClean’s experience highly and having played higher up in the pyramid in recent times, we think Wrexham will want to keep him around.
