David Moyes chats on media ahead West Ham vs Palace clash

A very good afternoon and welcome to the Rush Green Training Ground where, in just a short while, manager David Moyes will once again be in front of the gathered media as we prepare for another match in our hectic fixture schedule.

Just a few hours ago the boss and his West Ham United team were in Serbia, picking up a 1-0 win away to FK TSC to secure the Club’s place in the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League. In a little over 48 hours, we’re back in action against Crystal Palace!

A return to Premier League action at London Stadium brings the chance to put more points on the board. We’ll hear what the manager has to say in a few minutes or so!

As mentioned, Tomáš Souček scored a late winner – again – as West Ham United defeated FK TSC Bačka Topola in the UEFA Europa League.

The Czech midfielder notched in the 89th minute, scoring a decisive last-gasp goal for the third Hammers game in succession.

His strike settled a low-key game in Serbia and kept the Irons top of Group A heading into the finale against SC Freiburg.

The past 12 months may not have been the easiest of Maxwel Cornet’s career, but the Ivory Coast international reminded everyone of his quality in West Ham United’s 1-0 UEFA Europa League Group A win at FK TSC.

The winger was introduced as a substitute with 23 minutes to play on a freezing night in northern Serbia and his team struggling to break down stubborn, well-organised opponents.

But, just when it looked as if time was running out for the Irons to find a winner, Cornet raced down the right flank, cut back onto his stronger left foot and delivered an inch-perfect cross for Tomáš Souček to volley in at the far post and clinch a vital victory.

Success in Serbia means West Ham have guaranteed progress to the knockout stages, remain top of Group A and need a point from their matchday six tie with SC Freiburg at London Stadium to qualify directly to the round of 16.

For Cornet, who played his part in last season’s UEFA Europa Conference League win, another long European campaign would be great, but just being back on the pitch and having the opportunity to show his quality after a difficult year affected by injury was hugely gratifying.

“It was important for me to get some minutes tonight and I’m really happy about the victory, so lets continue,” he said: “The talent is still here!

“We worked a lot this week with the staff about crosses and I’m happy to give an assist with my cross for Tomáš. When I play on the right side I can try a lot of things, go inside and shoot or cross like I did with the assist, so I can play everywhere up front.

You can kick-off the New Year in style by being there at London Stadium when we take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday 2 January.

Tickets for this match are now on General Sale and we’ll be going for a Premier League double over the Seagulls, after we recorded a stunning 3-1 victory on the Sussex Coast back in August.

James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio all hit the back of the net that day and David Moyes’ men will be on the hunt for more on home turf.
