Wrexham should let attacker go permanently this summer, under contract until 2025

Wrexham signed Billy Waters back in March 2023 but he has since struggled to make an impact with the Welsh side.
Wrexham loaned him out to fellow League Two club Doncaster Rovers in the January transfer window.

Waters, 29, is due to return to the Racecourse Ground this summer but his future is up in the air.

The Red Dragons need to consider cashing in on him permanently in the next transfer window, regardless of what league they are in.

Wrexham should sell forward
Selling Waters would suit all parties involved. It would free up space and funds in their squad to bring in other players and it would help him get some more game time.

Wrexham landed him last year from Barrow to bolster their attacking options as they chased down promotion from the National League. They ended up winning the title and went up along with Notts County.

However, the forward has struggled for opportunities under Phil Parkinson, hence why he was allowed to leave for Doncaster on a temporary basis. He remains under contract until June 2025 though.

His switch to Rovers has been a chance for him to put himself in the shop window. It remains to be seen whether Grant McCann’s side are interested in bringing him in on a long-term basis.

FC Halifax Town boss Chris Millington said he was keen on luring him back to The Shay in the last window and told Halifax Courier: “If Billy wanted to come here then there’d be a conversation to be had, for sure, but I think Billy’s sights are set on staying in the EFL. But of course, we wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to re-sign Billy were we to have it.”

Waters was a hit during his time in Yorkshire. He fired 19 goals in 47 outings under their former boss Pete Wild before following him to Barrow.

The London-born man has also had stints in the past Crewe Alexandra, Cheltenham Town, Northampton Town, Cambridge United, Newport County and Torquay United in the past.

Wrexham have a decision to make regarding his situation when he is back from Doncaster with most signs pointing towards the exit again.
