Rovers manager “We’ve got to respect the opposition”

Tranmere Rovers manager Nigel Adkins has spoken of the qualities in the Crawley Town team his side are preparing to face at Prenton Park this Saturday (3pm kick-off), and expects that ‘the fans are in for a good spectacle’.

“It’s going to be a tough game. We know, and I think the fans need to appreciate this as well, they are a very, very good possession-based side. They’re fighting for the play-off positions as well.

“They’re on a good run, I think they’ve won four of their last five games, but they play out from the back, they play through, they’re a threat up front, they overload areas, they’re very good at what they do, and they’re exciting to watch.

“Having said that, so are we. We’re good at what we do. We’ve been winning games of football, we’ve found ways to win games of football. I think the fans are in for a good spectacle, but I know that if we try and close them down as individuals, then they’ll pick us off and play through us. We’ve got to be very mindful of that and respectful of the opposition.

“However, we’re at Prenton Park, we’ve got a great home record of late and we’ve got a team who are working extremely hard for each other, and we score goals.”

Nigel spoke about how the reverse fixture at Crawley was his first in interim charge of Tranmere Rovers. “We’ve gone down, the players applied themselves well, it was a late goal that we’ve conceded which was harsh on the players because they tried. Brad Walker put a fantastic ball through for Charlie Jolley to score, Sam Taylor scored as well.

“That was the start of the journey. After a couple of months as interim, I then ended up taking it full time as of November. We’ve kicked on massively when we look at the data that’s out there.”
