Why £40m Tottenham player will play with an injury against Fulham

Quite simply, Tottenham didn’t turn up at Craven Cottage on Saturday. They were lacklustre and lacking energy for most of the game, and their star players didn’t turn up.

The likes of Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski had poor games, while James Maddison was also miles off his best.

Indeed, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has stated that Maddison had a bit of an ankle problem this week heading into the game, and that may well have played a part in his poor showing at the weekend.

“He had a little problem in the week as well. I think he had a little bit of an ankle issue in the week from what I understand. Not enough to keep him out, but maybe that played a part, I don’t know,” Gold said.

Maddison, much like the rest of his teammates, didn’t look himself against Fulham, and it’s much easier to chalk that down to an injury than it is anything else.

Maddison had perhaps one of his worst games in a Tottenham shirt at the weekend, and that may be down to the fact he was struggling with his ankle.

Of course, explaining why the other 10 Tottenham players on the pitch were equally as poor isn’t so easy, but at least Maddison’s poor showing seemed to be for a reason.
