Chelsea vs Brighton: Pochettino may make a surprise decision

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino

If the 4-1 defeat against Newcastle told Chelsea anything it’s that they’re probably more likely to beat Brighton on Sunday. 13 games into the league season and Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won just as many games after losing as they have after losing.

In fact, their record after losing this season has been largely good. Other than the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth – which came after the international break and saw 12 players miss out on the matchday squad with injury – Chelsea have played four times after defeat, winning two, drawing once and scoring six times, conceding none.

One of those games was the reverse of this fixture and is exactly the sort of performance needed when the Seagulls come to town again. Off the back of a historic day in Greece on Thursday for Roberto De Zerbi’s men, some injury issues and absences to take into account and an aggressive play-style that might well suit the Blues, it looks set up to be a cracker.

For Pochettino that is when his team have thrived this season, battling the chaos to get impressive points from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City whilst also putting Tottenham to the sword – eventually. It only took one big loss before the patience faded away though with unrest once more returning at SW6.
