Queen Latifah was showered with love at the NAACP Image Awards ahead of her 54th birthday. The star received a special rendition of Happy Birthday from Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The star’s birthday is March 18 and she’ll be turning 54 years old this year, but while hosting the award show, the audience sang Stevie Wonder’s version of Happy Birthday with Sheryl Lee Ralph taking the lead. A cake was rolled out onto the stage for the actress, decorated in royal blue icing with white, cursive font. An illustration of an NAACP Image Award was also decorated onto the gorgeous cake.
After Sheryl danced through the crowd and encouraged others to get involved, the attention was tossed back over to Queen who was hosting the award show. She said: “Oh and you want me to talk after that, after you blind side me? Okay, thank you so much everybody. I really appreciate that.”
“As expected, Queen Latifah’s looks just keep getting better and better as the night progresses. A fashion icon, indeed,” said a third. Twitter was full and flooded of birthday love for the actress and rapper. Another fan said: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY Queen Latifah wish you many more and enjoy your special birthday.”
The NAACP Image Awards brought together some of the most powerful stars in Hollywood to celebrate and uplift people of colour in the arts. The 55th annual ceremony saw over 40 award categories handed out to well-deserving talent.
