Spurs Fall Short vs. Atlanta Hawks; Losing Streak Extended to 13

The San Antonio Spurs are back in the loss column after a 137-135 defeat against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night at the Frost Bank Center.The Spurs started off hot, building a 15-point lead in the first quarter, but the Hawks were able to stay in the game thanks to their offensive output.At halftime, the Spurs held a four-point lead and they were able to keep it going through the third quarter. In the fourth, the Spurs held a lead and it grew to seven points with 8:30 to go.

However, Atlanta’s defense finally showed up at the party and held San Antonio scoreless for four minutes. During that time, the Hawks took the lead. The Spurs found a way to get it back, but the Hawks were able to pull away with a run led by Trae Young.

Young scored nine of his game-high 45 points in the final couple of minutes, icing the game for the Hawks.

This is another disappointing loss for the Spurs, especially considering how close they were to a win. However, there is certainly some growth displayed and they can use it to build on.

Jeremy Sochan had his best game of the season with a team-high 33 points on 12 of 14 shooting. No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama scored 21 points while grabbing 12 rebounds, and Devin Vassell scored 25 off the benchThe Spurs will have to shake this off quickly because they are back out on the road Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
