The Lakers were completely overmatched by the Thunder.
Well, that was ugly. On the second night of a back-to-back, the Los Angeles Lakers dropped by the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 133-110. Their record for the season now sits at 11-9 through the first 20 games.
This now becoming a trend for the Lakers, where they blow a team out in the first game of a back-to-back, then get blown off the floor the next night. LA will need to fix its issues with these types of games going forward, otherwise, the same fate will continue.
The Lakers started the game out incredibly strong and took a 37-30 lead into the second quarter. But then it all went downhill from there. The second quarter did them in, with the Thunder scoring them by 19 points.
Between the second and third quarter combined, LA was outscored 78-51 which saw the Thunder take a 20-point lead into the final period. The Lakers couldn’t rebound, and the loss dropped them down to 2-2 on their mini four-game road trip.
Big man Anthony Davis led the way, scoring 31 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. He had 15 of his points in the first quarter and cooled off as the game went along.
LeBron James added 21 points and 13 rebounds in the game, and point guard D’Angelo Russell dropped 16 points and 10 assists. LA continues to be hit hard by the injury bug, but there is hope that some key players will be able to return soon. They need their entire lineup out there, and it shows on nights like this.
Here are some of the Lake Show’s top plays from the frustrating evening.
LA will now head back to Los Angeles for a matchup with the Houston Rockets on Saturday evening. This will mark their third meeting between the two sides, with each team taking a game on their home floor.
Hopefully, LA can bounce back against Houston to get a win to keep up in the Western Conference standing. After Houston, the knockout round for the In-Season tournament begins, with the Lakers facing off against Pacific Division rival Phoenix Suns from Crypto.com Arena.
