The Baltimore Ravens are expected to add at least one wide receiver this offseason through either the draft or free agency. It’s unlikely Odell Beckham Jr. will be re-signed after a lackluster season that cost the team $16 million dollars.
One possibility in April’s NFL Draft is a player familiar to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
Georgia Bulldogs wideout Ladd McConkey was part of one of the best college football teams of all time, winning back-to-back national championships with Monken as the offensive coordinator.
McConkey indicated he would be excited about reuniting with Monken in Baltimore, calling him a “great coach” and thanking him for giving him a chance in Georgia’s offense.
“He was a great coach,” McConkey said at the Combine this week. “He did a lot for me and gave me a chance that second year and we won two nattys together. So it was a special time and being able to reunite with him would be cool.
“He’s a great coach and a great person and they had a really good season last year as well.”
McConkey is considered to be a slot receiver at the next level because of his size and route-running prowess. And the Ravens could use a guy like that. And if he ends up in Baltimore, he could have a head start over other rookies because of his familiarity with Monken and his offense.
He’s probably a reach at No. 30 but if he’s around with the Ravens’ second pick at No. 62, he could be a possibility.
