Why Garth Crooks raves about Crystal Palace winger

Crystal Palace returned to winning ways last week after they won 3-0 against Burnley at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.

While Vincent Kompany’s side were horrible once again, the Eagles did everything right to pick up all three points in Oliver Glasner’s first game in charge.

He has become only the second manager in the club’s history who has won their first game in charge in the Premier League era.

Goals from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta earned Palace a crucial victory against the ten-men Burnley. There were some brilliant performances from that game, but Garth Crooks was heavily impressed by Ayew.

The 32-year-old forward provided a “glorious” cross from which Richards scored his first goal for the club. Crooks says that he is producing some “tremendous” football after his brilliant performance.

“In the absence of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, Ayew has taken charge of matters at Palace and is producing some tremendous football,” said Crooks to BBC Sport.

“He set up Chris Richards’ first goal for the club with a glorious cross and scored his second in consecutive matches, having covered the ground to convert a brilliant passage of play.”

Ayew has been in brilliant form for the Eagles this season, having scored four goals and provided six assists in the Premier League.

Under Roy Hodgson, Palace were heading in the wrong direction and they needed fresh ideas. Glasner can lift the place if Palace can finish the season strongly.

The Eagles jumped to 13th in the Premier League with that victory. However, the key for Palace here is to maintain consistency.

Next up for them is a trip to north London where they will be up against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham. Spurs have got a nice two-week break, so the players will be fit and fresh for this derby game.

Spurs know they have to win this game and close the gap with Aston Villa. It will be interesting to see how they fare away from home under their new manager.

In other Crystal Palace news, the Eagles are still in hunt to sign 18-year-old striker they failed to sign in January.
