The Golden State Warriors defensive stalwart suffered the injury during the second half of Tuesday’s high stakes In Season Tournament loss to the Sacramento Kings.The 8-10 Warriors, who are also dealing with a lower leg injury to Chris Paul, owe a top-four protected 2024 first round pick to the Blazers.
Payton signed a three-year deal with the Blazers during the 2022 offseason after winning the NBA Championship with the Warriors a month earlier. The 30-year-old played only 15 games in Portland after an extended recovery from an abdominal complaint.
He was traded back to the Warriors at the 2023 trade deadline. This season Payton II has averaged 5.9 points on 32 percent three point shooting, 3.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.2 steals.
