The 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching and the Chicago Bears will soon be on the clock. The whole NFL landscape seemingly knows what direction the Bears will go in leading up to next week’s NFL Combine, but what will the team do beyond that?
Along with having the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bears also currently hold the ninth overall selection in the first round.
Before things start heating up going into the Combine and into March, here is the perfect pre-free agency draft target for the Bears with their second pick in the draft:
Bears Pre-Free Agency Draft Fits, 9th Overall Pick: Wide Receiver Rome Odunze
The Bears already have one legitimate stud at the wide receiver position in DJ Moore heading into 2024 but in order for offensive coordinator Shane Waldron’s offense to work effectively in Chicago, he’ll need another top guy at the position.
Enter Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick, if he’s on the board the time the Bears are on the clock. Odunze was one of the best, and more importantly most reliable, wide receivers in the entire FBS and his exactly the type of player the Bears should be targeting to compliment Moore in the passing game.
Whether it’s Justin Fields or Caleb Williams at quarterback for the Bears in 2024, Odunze needs to end up in Chicago by the time the first-round comes to a close. The Bears desperately needed a wide receiver who could take the pressure off of Moore and help move the chains in critical situations that the offense failed to convert on time and time again in 2023.
The Bears will get their first in-person look at Odunze at the Combine next week in Indianapolis and he’s sure to blow away all of the scouts and executives in attendance.
Odunze is the perfect fit for Waldron’s offense and if he’s on the board when the Bears are on the clock with the ninth overall pick, it would be an easy decision for general manager Ryan Poles to make.
