Daka returns in Leicester predicted line-up against Middlesbrough

The Zambian striker was an unused substitute in midweek but could come back into the team having netted seven goals in his 10 Championship appearances this season.

Patson Daka could return to the Leicester City starting line-up when they take on Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Zambian striker was an unused substitute in midweek as City beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 to strengthen their grip on the Championship’s top spot. But prior to that, he had started all three matches since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

With three goals and an assist to his name across those victories against Swansea, Stoke, and Watford, Daka has been delivering for Enzo Maresca. That could mean he gets the nod over Jamie Vardy, Tom Cannon, and the returning Kelechi Iheanacho this weekend.

There are unlikely to be too many changes with City in such good form, but it may be time for Ricardo Pereira to be handed a break. Aside from the first half against Birmingham in the FA Cup and the final six minutes against Stoke a fortnight ago, he has played every minute this calendar year, the Portuguese yet to be afforded a full game off in 2024. With a big game against Leeds coming up next week, and off the back of two 90-minute outings already over the past seven days, Hamza Choudhury may be called upon.

Beyond that, there are the usual tough decisions at left-back, where it’s James Justin against Callum Doyle, and in midfield, where Dennis Praet, Yunus Akgun, and Kasey McAteer are rivals for the spot next to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. For now, Maresca may stick with the players who beat the Owls, with Justin and Praet continuing in the 11.
