3 moves the Detroit Lions must make to reach Super Bowl LIX

After falling agonizingly short of it this year, here are three offseason moves the Detroit Lions must make if they want to make it to the Super Bowl next year.

The Detroit Lions carried plenty of buzz into the 2023 season. The question was if they were up to meeting those expectations. The answer was a resounding yes, with a 12-5 regular season record, a division title, two playoff wins and a trip to the NFC Championship Game.

But ultimately the Lions fell short of the Super Bowl, relinquishing a shocking 24-7 halftime lead over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Dan Campbell’s aggressiveness on fourth down did not change in the biggest game of the season, much to the chagrin of the “take the points” crowd. But without that aggressiveness, the Lions would not have gotten to where they got to. If it had worked, then Campbell would have been a hero.

The Lions are now eyeing the proverbial “next step”, to reach or even win a Super Bowl. Maybe even do it multiple times in the coming years (but let’s not get greedy). With a short list of big needs on the roster, though there could be a big sneaky one if free agent losses mount there, there can be a bullseye placed on certain spots in need of an upgrade this offseason.
