San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been called a “game manager” throughout the season. The former seventh round pick is one win away from leading his team to their first Super Bowl win since 1995.
The term “game manager” is a criticism that some use to describe NFL quarterbacks, but Joe Burrow believes it’s necessary for any high level signal-caller.
“You better be a game manager as a quarterback, otherwise it’s gonna go haywire immediately and you’re not gonna be able to operate the offense,” Burrow told Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg. “Brock has made tons of plays with his legs outside of the structure of the offense. All you gotta do is go watch the tape and you see that Brock is playing at a high level.”
Purdy is hoping to do something only Burrow and Tom Brady have done: beat Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.
